Shillong, Sept 9: DNA testing at the Directorate of Forensic Sciences, Shillong has come to a halt due to shortage of chemicals, the Meghalaya High Court of Meghalaya was informed on Tuesday.
The submission was made before a division bench of Chief Justice Revati Mohite Dere and Justice W Diengdoh hearing a PIL.
The Court had on August 11 asked the Advocate General to seek instructions on whether chemicals required for DNA analysis had been made available to the FSL after it was informed that testing was stopped due to pending requisition before the state government.
On Monday, AAG ND Chullai, assisted by GA R Colney, placed on record a short notice inviting quotation for supply of kits and consumables for the DNA Unit.
The quotations are to be received and opened on September 9.
Chullai also said maintenance work at the Directorate is underway and will be completed by this month end, and sought four weeks time.
The Court granted time and fixed October 12 as the next date.
It also directed Amicus Curiae K Ch Gautam to visit the FSL office and submit a report on the next hearing.
