Shillong, Aug 17: The movement of people and vehicles in the Laitumkhrah area eased on Monday morning after street vendors were relocated to designated vending spaces arranged by the government.
Officials from the Shillong Municipal Board (SMB), along with police personnel, visited Laitumkhrah this morning to ensure that the street vendors were moved to the designated locations at Brightstarwell Playground in Barik and the SMB Parking Lot at Dhankheti.
During the municipal authorities’ drive, the vendors did not resist the relocation, and no vendors were seen setting up their stalls along the area. This comes despite attempts by some vendors to oppose the relocation in recent days.

Members of the Laitumkhrah Dorbar Shnong, women’s organisations and youth organisations were also present to help maintain peace and prevent any untoward incident.
SMB CEO K.C. Boro said that all the street vendors in Laitumkhrah had agreed to move to the designated vending areas.
Local MLA Ampareen Lyngdoh was also present at the site this morning to witness the situation.
