SHILLONG, APR 26: East Khasi Hills Police imposed fines amounting to Rs 2.46 lakh after detecting 194 traffic violations during a special naka drive conducted in Shillong on the intervening night of April 25 and 26.
The coordinated enforcement operation covered three sectors — Sadar, Laitumkhrah and Lumdiengjri — and was carried out under the supervision of the Superintendent of Police, East Khasi Hills, SP (City/Traffic), and Additional SP Traffic.
“The drive was undertaken to intensify enforcement against traffic violations and unsafe road practices through coordinated, multi-location checking, particularly during night hours when such violations are more prevalent,” police said.
The enforcement focused on detection of drunk driving, illegal modification of exhaust systems and lights, black-tinted vehicle glasses, along with document verification and other violations under the Motor Vehicles Act.
“During the drive, a total of 194 violations were detected and fines amounting to ₹2,46,000 were imposed,” police added.
Over 100 personnel were deployed for the operation, with active participation of all In-Charges of Traffic Branches and Officers-in-Charge of Police Stations.” Each naka point was “supervised by Gazetted Officers, ensuring coordinated and effective enforcement across all sectors.”
Police said the special drive reflects their continued commitment towards sustained and visible enforcement aimed at deterring violations, enhancing compliance and improving road safety across the district.
