Imphal, Jan 23: Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla on Thursday said that the killing of Meitei civilian Mayanglambam Rishikanta Singh will be investigated by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) to ensure a thorough and impartial probe.
The assurance came after a Joint Action Committee, led by Lok Sabha MP Dr Angomcha Bimol Akoijam and accompanied by MLAs Thokchom Lokeshwar Singh and Kangujam Ranjit Singh, met the Governor on Wednesday and submitted a memorandum seeking appropriate action in connection with the incident.
Family members of the deceased were also part of the delegation, which expressed grave concern over the killing and urged the authorities to ensure justice through a fair investigation.

Governor Bhalla expressed deep sorrow over the death of Rishikanta Singh and conveyed his condolences to the bereaved family. He informed the delegation that the case is being handed over to the NIA for a comprehensive and impartial inquiry.
According to the memorandum, Rishikanta Singh was abducted and later shot dead by suspected Kuki militants in Churachandpur district on Wednesday night.
The Governor further said that intensive combing operations have been launched since Wednesday night to apprehend those responsible. These operations are being carried out on a war footing with coordinated efforts from both State and Central security forces.
