Guwahati, Dec 9: A delegation of Congress MLAs on Monday submitted a formal complaint to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), demanding a time-bound and impartial probe into alleged financial and administrative irregularities at Tezpur University.

In their letter addressed to the CBI’s Guwahati office, the legislators said the allegations have repeatedly surfaced over the years, raised by students, faculty bodies, staff associations, and even reflected in responses to Right to Information (RTI) applications. Leader of the Opposition Debabrata Saikia clarified that the complaint does not target any individual but seeks an independent verification of the concerns flagged by multiple stakeholders.

“I write this letter in the interest of transparency, public accountability, and protection of public funds, with a request that the Anti-Corruption Bureau/CBI conduct an independent inquiry into multiple allegations of financial, administrative, and statutory irregularities that have arisen at Tezpur University over the past several years,” the memorandum stated.

The letter, jointly signed by Saikia and MLAs Nurul Huda and Sibamoni Bora, noted that several of the concerns have been circulated on public platforms and formally communicated by various campus bodies. It also urged the CBI to examine an RTI-linked claim that key documents related to the Vice-Chancellor’s appointment and qualifications were reportedly “not available in the office.”

The legislators said only an impartial investigation by a competent central agency can restore confidence in the institution’s governance.
