Guwahati, Dec 3: In a significant breakthrough against cross-border narcotics trafficking, the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), Guwahati, has seized 6.149 kg of heroin from a boat on the Barak River and arrested two traffickers in a swift, intelligence-led operation.

Acting on specific inputs, an NCB team intercepted the vessel on Monday night during a coordinated riverine raid carried out with the support of the CRPF’s 147 Battalion and Silchar Police. The heroin—packed in 530 soap cases—was recovered after a thorough search of the boat.

According to officials, the consignment had originated from Myanmar and was being transported through forested stretches and river routes to bypass road surveillance and reach Silchar.

NCB sources said the bust exposes a major transnational supply chain that has been using remote waterways to push narcotics into Assam and further into mainland India.

The two arrested traffickers are being interrogated to trace the larger network and identify handlers on both sides of the border. Authorities said more arrests and recoveries are likely as the probe progresses.
