State Govt to bear all medical costs for critically injured NEHU students

Shillong, Nov 19: Deputy Chief Minister and Transport Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar on Wednesday announced that the Meghalaya government will bear all medical expenses for the two NEHU students: Daritngen Pohdukhei and Stefanie Shadap, who were critically injured in a severe car accident in the university campus on Monday.

Dhar visited the injured students at Nazareth Hospital on Wednesday and said that one of them remains in a very critical condition.

He assured the families that the government is prepared to cover the full cost of treatment, including if the patients need to be referred outside the state for advanced care.

The minister also confirmed that the driver involved in the accident was arrested on the same night. He added that the Transport Department will intensify enforcement of traffic laws to curb reckless and irresponsible driving.

Dhar was accompanied by Danial Thangkhiew, OSD to the Chief Minister, during the hospital visit.
