Shillong, Nov 14: The Meghalaya High Court has issued notice to the Assembly Speaker Thomas A Sangma following a petition challenging his ruling on Congress’ seeking disqualification of defecting legislators.
The petition was filed by the Secretary of the Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) Manuel Badwar.
Badwar has challenged a recent order passed by Assembly Speaker dismissing his petition seeking disqualification of four Congress legislators who defected to the ruling National People’s Party (NPP).

During the hearing, Advocate General A Kumar, assisted by Government Advocate S Laloo, accepted notice on behalf of the Speaker (respondent No 1), thereby obviating the need for further service to him.
In its order passed on Friday, the bench headed by Justice HS Thangkhiew directed notices to be issued to the remaining respondents within three days.
The Advocate General raised preliminary objections concerning the clubbing of the writ petition against four impugned orders.
In response, counsel for the petitioner KV Kharlyngdoh requested and was granted permission to obtain instructions, with the matter adjourned to December 8, 2025.
