Shillong, Nov 11: The 4th State Weightlifting Championship, organised by the West Garo Hills Weightlifting Association (WGHWA) held at the Indoor Stadium in Mawkyrwat concluded recently.
Despite being represented by only three participants — due to injuries and health related issues affecting several others — the district achieved remarkable success.
Raksil N. Sangma — Gold in the 65 kg category, Raul Gabryan M. Sangma — Gold in the 60 kg category and Chesya M. Marak — Silver in the 48 kg category.
The Association extends heartfelt congratulations to all three athletes for bringing pride and recognition to the district.
Due to unavoidable challenges and unforseen complications, the WGHWA has decided to formally call off the fundraising lottery that was initiated in support of the association’s activities.
“All funds collected will be returned to the respective donors. We deeply appreciate the generosity and support extended by individuals and well wishers towards the growth of weightlifting in the district,” said a member of WGHWA.
