Shillong, Nov 10: The Bengaluru Unit of the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) has submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma requesting the need to expedite the operationalization of the Meghalaya House in Bengaluru and introduce a direct flight between Shillong and Bengaluru at least once a week.
In the letter, KSU-BU president Donboklang Nongphud said, “We express our sincere gratitude to the Government of Meghalaya for having acquired a building for the proposed Meghalaya House in Bengaluru. However, the facility is yet to be made operational. We, therefore, earnestly urge the Government to expedite the necessary works so that the Meghalaya House may become functional at the earliest. Its completion will serve as an important centre of assistance and accommodation for students, patients, and other citizens from our State.”
The students’ body also requested the government to introduce a direct flight between Shillong and Bengaluru at least once a week, citing travel challenges faced by Meghalaya residents in the city.
Additionally, the KSU appealed for government assistance in repatriating deceased citizens, including coordination and financial support for transporting mortal remains to Meghalaya, and designated officers from the Meghalaya Secretariat to oversee the welfare of Meghalaya citizens in Bengaluru.
