Shillong, Oct 3: A vehicle was badly damaged on Wednesday night after being struck by falling boulders along the Shillong–Pynursla–Dawki road, though the passengers managed to escape unharmed.
The incident occurred near Pomlum village, where road construction work is ongoing. According to reports, the vehicle was descending the stretch around dusk when loose boulders suddenly tumbled down, smashing onto the car and causing severe damage.
Fortunately, those inside the vehicle managed to get out in time, narrowly escaping what could have been a tragic accident.
It may be noted that the SDO of Pynursla had issued a public notice earlier in the day, temporarily restricting traffic between Laitlyngkot and Lyngkyrdem due to safety concerns arising from heavy rainfall and soil erosion in the area.
Authorities have warned that the stretch remains highly vulnerable during the monsoon and travel along the road continues to pose risks until conditions improve.
