Guwahati, July 20: A 75-year-old passenger onboard IndiGo flight 6E-6011 from Chennai to Guwahati was saved after suffering a medical emergency mid-air, thanks to the swift intervention of an Indian Army doctor.
The incident occurred around 6:20 PM on Saturday when the elderly passenger suddenly lost consciousness, showing classic signs of hypoglycaemia—profuse sweating, cold extremities, and a feeble pulse. The cabin crew promptly administered oxygen and made an urgent call for medical assistance.
Major Mukundan, a serving Army doctor who happened to be on the flight while returning from leave, responded immediately. Upon examination, he found the passenger semi-conscious with reactive pupils and clear indicators of low blood sugar.
Working with limited resources, Maj Mukundan administered oral sugar and oral rehydration solution (ORS), while closely monitoring the patient’s oxygen levels and vital signs throughout the flight.
Upon arrival at Guwahati airport, the passenger was swiftly taken to the emergency room, where Maj Mukundan continued providing medical care. By 8:00 PM, the passenger had regained full consciousness and was in a stable condition.
