Guwahati, July 9: Over 32,000 people have been affected across six districts of Assam after a second wave of floods wreaked havoc, claiming one more life on Tuesday and pushing the state’s flood and landslide toll to 29.

With the latest casualty, the total number of deaths due to this year’s floods and landslides has risen to 29, including six fatalities from mudslides.

According to a bulletin issued by the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), the latest death was reported from the Morongi revenue circle in Golaghat district.

A total of 13 revenue circles and 169 villages across the districts of Golaghat, Hojai, Nagaon, Sivasagar, Jorhat, and Karbi Anglong have been affected. A total of 4,265 displaced people are currently taking shelter in 33 relief camps, while 27 additional relief distribution centres are operational.

An estimated 2,470 hectares of cropland have also been submerged, according to the ASDMA bulletin.

More than 32,300 people have been impacted, with Golaghat being the worst-hit, where nearly 19,500 residents are reeling under floodwaters.

A major breach in the embankment of the Dhansiri River at West Dhudang, under the Bokakhat sub-division, has inundated several villages, rendering thousands of people homeless.

Doboka is witnessing one of the worst flood episodes in recent memory as the Yamuna River breached its banks, flooding new areas including Longlibasti, after submerging Doboka town and Dighaljaruni.

In Nagaon district, the Kampur and Kathiatoli regions are grappling with their second wave of floods this year.

The overflowing Dhansiri River has affected more than 20 villages in Khumtai, severely disrupting daily life. The iconic Dhodar Ali road, a crucial link to NH-39, is submerged near Letekuchapari, impacting the commute of thousands, including workers from the Numaligarh Refinery.
