Shillong, March 25: The National Testing Agency (NTA) has shifted examination centres for the CUET exam for most of Meghalaya students from Guwahati to Shillong following intervention by the state government, in particular by Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma.

Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma announced the development via micro-blogging platform X (formerly Twitter), thanking NTA officials and Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan for their support.

“Happy that NTA has shifted most of the students of Meghalaya from Guwahati centre to Shillong centre after the intervention of the State Government. Thank the officials of NTA and Hon’ble @dpradhanbjp ji for his continuous support and understanding,” Sangma wrote on his handle.

The relocation comes after widespread concerns were raised over the initial allotment of exam centres outside the state, particularly affecting students from remote areas who would have faced difficulties traveling to Guwahati.

Several student organisations had also urged authorities to establish examination centres within Meghalaya, citing accessibility issues.

On March 17, Meghalaya Chief Minister had appealed to the Ministry of Education and the NTA to reconsider the allocation. “Many students are being assigned Guwahati centres, causing inconvenience. Hopeful that the issue will be resolved,” he had stated on social media.
