Shillong, Feb 6: Shillong is set to host its first-ever Indian Super League (ISL) match as NorthEast United FC takes on Mumbai City FC at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium on Friday at 7:30 PM.
This exciting match is expected to have a packed stadium with local fans coming out in full force to support the Highlanders.
Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium
It maybe noted that the stadium has been recently renovated, with one of the biggest changes being the installation of a natural grass pitch.

Statically, a Natural turf is preferred by many players as it provides better grip, reduces injury risks, and allows for smoother gameplay compared to artificial turf. The Shillong cool weather also makes it a good surface to play on.

The players of Mumbai FC are also having their practice session at the natural ground at NEHU.

NorthEast United FC is currently in the 4th place while Mumbai City FC is in the 6th place. Both teams will be looking to grab three points as the season heads towards its crucial phase.

Players to  Watch
  • NorthEast United FC – Aladeen Ajaree & Redeem Tlang

Top scorer, Ajaree has been a lively presence in attack, while local boy Redeem Tlang brings pace and skill to the wings. Both players will be key in breaking down Mumbai’s defense.

  • Mumbai City FC – Lallianzuala Chhangte (Captain & Winger)

Chhangte, Mumbai’s new captain, is known for his speed and ability to create chances. He will be one of the biggest threats for the NorthEast defense.

With Shillong making its long-awaited ISL debut, the stage is set for a thrilling contest. The atmosphere will be electric, the stakes high, and the passion unmatched. Whether NorthEast United can make the most of their home advantage or Mumbai City spoils the party.
