SHILLONG, JAN 8: The Hill State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP) on Wednesday announced its second list of three candidates for the upcoming elections to the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC).
Phinda Warjri, who is the elder sister of cabinet minister Shakliar Warjri, is among the three candidates. She will be contesting from Pariong constituency.
The other two candidates include – Starfing Pdahkasiej from Mawsynram and Srally Rashir from Mawshynrut.
So far, the HSPDP has announced the names of eleven candidates, two of which are from the constituencies under the Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC).
Addressing media persons, HSPDP president KP Pangniang said there are some constituencies where the party has decided not to field any candidate after an understanding with its RDA partner – the United Democratic Party (UDP).
“Also, the UDP is doing the same where in some constituencies, it has not fielded any candidates,” he said.
Further, Pangniang said that the major agendas of the party for the upcoming ADC polls is to safeguard the customary practices, law, traditional heads, land tenure system and others.
“Since its inception, the HSPDP have been fighting for the district council, especially those elakas falling under the disputed areas with Assam. We will put forward our demand from the state government to resolve the remaining six areas of differences since the elakas are under the guardianship of the district council,” he said.
According to him, the party will move the state government to ensure all these elakas should be made part and parcel of the state of Meghalaya.
