Shillong, Dec 12: The Khun Hynniewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM) has said it is preparing a ‘very strong team’ to fight the upcoming elections to the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC), which is slated to be held next year.

“We are preparing a very strong team, which has one ideology and one goal with the objective to ensure that from next year onwards, we will see a better district council in KHADC so that we will uphold the spirit of the Sixth Schedule,” KHNAM working president Thomas Passah said here.

Passah is one among the eight candidates in the first list declared by the party recently. He will be contesting from Jaiaw constituency.

According to him, the SEC is in the process of screening the candidates and would soon finalize the second list of candidates for the upcoming elections.

Stating that the KHNAM is looking for a quality team, Passah said, “We have already rejected 2-3 candidates in the first phase. In the second phase, the candidates, who applied for a ticket, if we don’t see in them the quality, the intention, the spirit to work with the ideology of the party and to ensure we make a difference in the district council, those candidates will also be rejected. Therefore, our route to the district council is quality not quantity.”

The working president further said if there are quality candidates, the party will definitely fight from all the 29 constituencies in the Khasi Hills region.

He also informed that the second list will be out soon.
