Shillong, Nov 28: Postgraduate trainees of the North Eastern Institute of Ayurveda and Homeopathy (NEIAH) Mawdiangdiang have been on a hunger strike since November 26, alleging non-payment of their stipend for the past year.

The trainees have expressed frustration over the lack of response from the institute’s authorities regarding crucial issues such as stipend disbursement, affiliation, and guide allocation.

“We had contacted the administration multiple times through proper channels, submitting formal applications, but received no response. Left with no alternative, we were forced to resort to a hunger strike,” said one of the protesting trainees.

The situation has been exacerbated by the absence of key officials, with both the director and deputy director reportedly in Delhi. The trainees allege that even the designated in-charge of the institute has not been present, leaving their concerns unaddressed.

As the strike enters its third day, the health of several trainees has begun to deteriorate. Medical assistance has been provided, but the lack of administrative intervention has fueled growing concerns about the well-being of the protesters.
