Shillong, Sept 13: Meghalaya Tourism Minister, Paul Lyngdoh, met with Simona-Mirela Miculescu, President of the 42nd UNESCO General Conference and Romania’s Ambassador, to advocate for the recognition of Jingkieng Jri (Living Root Bridges) as UNESCO World Heritage sites. The meeting also included India’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to UNESCO.

Lyngdoh emphasized the importance of securing support to advance the Living Root Bridges, which are currently on UNESCO’s tentative list. The discussion extended to potential collaborations on digital archiving and other cultural initiatives.

Miculescu later expressed her appreciation for the meeting on X (formerly Twitter), saying, “Pleased to welcome an Indian delegation led by Mr. Bah Paul Lyngdoh, Minister for Social Welfare, Tourism, Arts, Culture and Textiles of the #Meghalaya State, known as the Abode of Clouds, that falls in one of the richest biodiversity areas in the world. Fascinating encounter!”
