Shillong, May 4: Chairman cum Managing Director of Meghalaya Energy Corporation Limited (MeECL), Sanjay Goyal has assured that the there would be no scheduled load shedding in the coming days. He stated that, “the state is in a position to provide uninterrupted electricity supply for the next five to six weeks even if the monsoon is delayed”.

Speaking to Ka Shlem he said that in the past the system tripped and power supply was disrupted, mentioning of April 28, 2024 as one such day in which there was a major breakdown in Laitkor, he said that external factors like falling of tree lead to such major fallouts.

He further stated that the state has secured an additional 35 Megawatts of power from the National Thermal Power Corporation Limited (NTPC), previously allocated to Uttarakhand and now redirected to Meghalaya.

Meghalaya has also devised commercial arrangements and power banking contingencies to address potential water scarcity even after the initial weeks of June.

The power policy will be deliberated on once the Model Code of Conduct is lifted. However, he expressed optimism about increased private sector interest, given the policy’s visibility in the public domain, he said.
