Extensive damage to houses reported in Eastern West and West Khasi Hills; One child dead

Shillong, Iaiong 01: The furious rainstorm on Sunday afternoon wreaked havoc in multiple areas, resulting in extensive damage to houses in villages of Eastern West Khasi Hills and West Khasi Hills District.

According to reports, over 80 houses in Eastern West Khasi Hills were affected, with Mawiong Laitdom, Mairang experiencing the most severe devastation. Tragically, a three-year-old boy named Wiky Lawrynniang lost his life when the storm demolished his family home.

In West Khasi Hills District, approximately 15 houses in villages such as Ri-Muliang, Langpih, Tynghor, and Umyiap suffered damage.

Although there were no casualties reported but the powerful storm has uprooted electricity poles and trees in the affected areas.

Government officials are actively engaged in assessing the extent of the damage and providing assistance to those impacted.
