MHRC seeks report on non-payment of salaries to transport Dept’s contractual staff in Garo Hills

Shillong, Nov 27: The Meghalaya Human Rights Commission (MHRC) has given 15 days time to the Chief Secretary to submit a detailed report into the non-payment of salaries to six contractual employees of the transport department.

A statement issued by MHRC Secretary said the Commission has taken suo motu cognizance pertaining to the non-payment of salaries for 6 contractual employees of the transport department in South Garo Hills District.

According to the media report, at least six contractual employees of the transport department in South Garo Hills have allegedly not received their salaries for over two years with one employee tragically passing away with dues of over 20 months still to be paid to him.

It said that the Commission has issued a notice to the Chief Secretary, Government of Meghalaya, to conduct the entire matter and submit a Detailed Report to the Commission within 15 days.
