Imphal, Sep 26: In a major development into the missing cases of two youth, the photos of their bodies slumped on the ground have gone viral on social media.
The two youths, a boy and a girl, were last seen in Manipur’s Bishnupur district.
According to reports, the students were allegedly kidnapped by armed miscreants from an area between these two districts and taken to Churachandpur.
They were last captured by CCTV cameras installed at shops in July, but they were not traced.
After the picture went viral on social media, the Manipur government said that it would ensure “swift and decisive” action.
“State police, in collaboration with the central security agencies, are actively investigating the case to determine the circumstances surrounding their disappearance and to identify the perpetrators who murdered the two students. The security forces have also started the search operation to nab the perpetrators,” the government said.
Earlier, the picture of the two students showed an 18-year-old girl and a 20-year-old man sitting at the grassy compound, which appears to be from a jungle camp of an armed group.
It must be noted that ethnic clash broke out in Manipur on May 3 after a protest by the Kukis over the Meiteis’ demand for Scheduled Tribes (ST) status.
According to reports, over 180 people have lost their lives and thousands have been internally displaced.
