Shillong, Sept 25: In the midst of ongoing border talks between Assam and Meghalaya, the state BJP has decided to meet Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma to seek intervention to ensure the communities along the border don’t clash.

Incidents of confrontations in the bordering villages of both states have become increasingly frequent despite Assam-Meghalaya border talks.

Just two days prior, another clash took place between local residents and Assam Police officials who sought to dismantle a newly erected water tank in Barapathar village within the Ri Bhoi district along the inter-state boundary. A First Information Report (FIR) on the incident has also been filed.

When questioned about the measures being taken by the state BJP to resolve these recurring clashes, Ernest Mawrie, the outgoing President of the Meghalaya BJP, stated that the party has requested a meeting with Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in order to address and resolve these clashes.

However, owing to the Assam Chief Minister’s busy schedule, a suitable time has yet to be determined. The matter will be accorded due attention as soon as an opportunity arises. Mawrie also noted that Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma has been apprised on this matter.
