Shillong, July 17: Meghalaya has all the potential to emerge as a good medical tourist destination; it just needs to take steps in this direction. Dr. Neeta Maheshekhar, the Director of North Eastern Institute of Ayurveda & Homoeopathy (NEIAH), believes this and recently discussed this prospect with Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma.

She said she has urged the state government and the Ministry of AYUSH to jointly take steps in this direction.

Dr Maheshekhar informed that she has requested the state government to allot some plot of land in Umiam so that small cottages can be built which will be used to house tourists coming to Meghalaya for Ayurvedic medicine. And along with healing, they can also enjoy the natural beauty here.

Along with this, Dr. Neeta also shared that under the Ministry of AYUSH, efforts are on to provide a platform to the traditional Ayurvedic healers here so that their traditional medicinal methods can help Meghalaya emerge as a medical tourist destination.
