Tura, July 24: Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma on Monday met protesting civil society organizations (CSOs) including ACHIK, GHSMC, and other prominent civil bodies, who have been on an indefinite hunger strike outside Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) in Tura for the past 2 weeks.

They have been demanding establishment of winter capital in Tura and retrospective implementation of the roster system/ backlog policy.

In a bid to engage in comprehensive discussions and seek resolution, the Chief Minister met members of ACHIK, GHSMC, and the other organizations at the CMO in Tura and discussed their demands for over 3 hours. The Chief Minister also urged them to consider calling off their hunger strike and come forward for meaningful dialogue. He emphasized the importance of dialogue as an effective means to address grievances and chart a path towards mutual understanding and resolution.

Prior to the meeting with ACHIK, another group of civil bodies called on the CM at the Circuit House to present their grievances and seek redressal.

During these crucial meetings, CM Sangma extended an invitation to all the protesting organizations, urging them to partake in a detailed dialogue concerning the establishment of a winter capital and the implementation of job reservation policies. The CM said these discussions would be held in the presence of other cabinet ministers and relevant stakeholders to ensure a comprehensive and inclusive approach to finding solutions.

While the date for talks in Shillong has not been finalized, the tentative dates are August 8 or 9.
