Shillong, July 18: Nehtinsat Haokip, a 21 year-old of Manipur’a New Zalenphai, who was injured in a clash between Mizo ethnic groups and Meitei in Kangvai, Churachanpur District on July 7 was admitted to NEIGRIHMS, Shillong, with the help of the Central YMA in Mizoram.

Haokip is a son of Kanmang Haokip.

Shillong Group YMA will continue to take care of the injured youth.

According to sources, on July 7, Zalenphai village men, 1 km away from Kangvai, went to help fellow tribals in Kangvai from clashes with Meiteis. Nehtinsat Haokip, 28, was among them; he faced Meiteis firing without any weapons in his hand. Unfortunately, he was struck by the Metei’s bullet, and was admitted to Lamka Hospital. Upon investigation, there were bullets found in three parts of his body, i.e., his left arm, chest, and left lung.

Indigenous Tribals Leader Forum (ITLF) leaders sent a letter to Central YMA requesting assistance. He was then transferred to Mizoram with the help of Central YMA and was rushed to Aizawl Civil Hospital for treatment, where Doctors advised him to be taken to NEIGRIHMS for further treatment.

Central YMA said that Nehtinsat Haokip and his uncle, Nehlen Haokip were given flight tickets for Shillong and given ₹30,000/- for their assistance, which the Central Young Mizo Association will continue to look after.

Pu Ricky Zobiakvela, President of Shillong Group YMA, said that Nehtinsat Haokip and his accompanying persons were welcomed at Umroi Airport by YMA Ambulance and taken to NEIGRIHMS Hospital.
