International Day Against Drug Abuse: CM Conrad Sangma launches DREAM mission, allocates ₹50 Cr for 5 yrs, felicitates ANTF team

Shillong, June 26: Meghalaya Chief Minsiter Conrad Sangma on Monday attended a program to observe the International Day Against Drug Abuse & Illicit Trafficking organised by Meghalaya Police and the Social Welfare Department at the U Soso Tham Auditorium, Shillong.

CM Sangma said that the issue of Drug Abuse & Illicit Trafficking is one of a growing concern in Meghalaya that can be curbed through concerted efforts by community, civil societies and Government.

“Our policies and programs are designed in such a way that we keep the people who matter in the center therefore this initiative of having a dedicated team against drug abuse and illicit trafficking is a part of a larger strategy of a fight not only against drug abuse but the wellbeing of our youth,” he said.

He further said, “All the welfare and developmental programs and policies of the government will be meaningless if the youth are inflicted with drugs. Drugs destroys not only the abuser but the families, the society and the future”.

He also urged the gathering of students, community leaders & organisations to work together & ensure that the state reach collective goal of a Drug Free Meghalaya.

CM Conrad also felicitated individuals, organisations and community members who have worked towards eliminating the issue of drug trafficking in the State.

He also felicitated the Anti Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) team for their inspiring efforts towards our goal for a Drug Free Meghalaya.

CM also launched the Drug Reduction, Elimination & Action Mission (DREAM), a coordinated strategy to eliminate the issues of substance abuse towards a Drug Free Meghalaya. We are allocating ₹50 Crore for the next 5 years for this mission.

DREAM will focus on social mobilisation for concerted action, creation of an enabling support system for recovery & rehabilitation of users & a drug regulation procedure to strengthen the enforcement strategy
