Shillong, June 21: In the wake of the monsoon shower gracing Meghalaya, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma has declared that the ongoing loadshedding in the state will continue for the time being.

Sangma, while acknowledging the improvement in rainfall, stated that simply relying on rain to solve the power supply issue may not be the most efficient approach. He emphasized the importance of prudence during this critical period.

Speaking at a press conference, Chief Minister Sangma highlighted a significant milestone for Meghalaya. He announced that, for the first time in the state’s history, all three regions, namely Ganol in the Garo Hills, Leshka in the Jaintia Hills, and Umiam in the Khasi Hills, are actively contributing to power production. This means that all three areas and regions are currently contributing towards the power supply, marking a notable achievement for Meghalaya.

Despite this positive development, Sangma cautioned against complacency. While the state is experiencing an upturn in rainfall, he stressed that a prudent approach is necessary to address the power shortage effectively. Merely relying on rainwater may not be sufficient to meet the energy demands of the state’s population. The Chief Minister indicated that alternative solutions should be explored to ensure a stable and reliable power supply.
