Formalin-laced fish: Origin of the suppliers traced, says EKH Deputy Commissioner

Shillong, June 13: Days after formalin-laced fish were detected in Meghalaya following which the state Government banned sale of imported fish, the East Khasi Hills district administration said that the origin of the suppliers have been traced.

However, Commissioner of food safety and East Khasi Hills deputy commissioner, Rosetta Mary Kurbah refused to reveal the details of its findings.

According to the Officer, even after the ban on sale of imported fish is lifted, but the concerned department will however continue the rigorous testing of fish consignment imported to the state. T

She also said that the testing will be conducted regularly to ensure that fish are safe for consumption.

Kurbah said only tested fish will be allowed for sale in the local markets. She also said that necessary details will be submitted to the concerned department.

DC also informed that the government is mostly concerned about Rohu fish which is highly consumed by the people. She said Rohu fish will be closely tracked even after the ban gets lifted.

Recently, Meghalaya Government imposed ban on the sale of imported fish for 15 days after imported fish were injected with formalin was detected by the authorities.

Meanwhile, tests are being conducted to detect formalin-laced fishin the state.
