Shillong, May 8:The Voice of the People Party (VPP) has announced that it would be meeting Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on May 12 to hand over a memorandum demanding a review of the job reservation policy and to stop the implementation of the roster system till it is re-examined.

The VPP has also called on all supporters to come out in support of the four MLAs of the VPP on the said date.

In a press conference held on Monday, VPP spokesperson Dr Batskhem Myrboh said, “We have gone to different districts and we can see the response and concern to this very pertinent and very grave issue that our youth are facing in the state.”

He said the VPP had previously submitted a letter to the CM requesting a special session of the Meghalaya legislative assembly to discuss the policy, but they have not yet received any communication from the government in this regard.

Dr Myrboh stated that the party is left with no other option but to go and submit their memorandum to the government, asking them to stop the recruitment process until the job reservation policy is reviewed or the implementation of the roster system is re-examined. The VPP believes that continuing recruitment to different departments in the state is in ‘total disregard’ to the interest of the youth, and they have appealed to the public to support their cause.

Also alluding to a possible law and order breakdown in the city on May 12 as the party’s legislators submit the memorandum to the government, Dr Myrboh warned that the party will not be responsible for any untoward incident, even as he appealed to the public to maintain peace, calm, and respect for law and order.

It is to be mentioned that the VPP has organised a series of rallies to tell the public about what it believes to be ‘unjust implementation’ of the roster system based on the unfair premise of the existing state job reservation policy.
