Shillong, May 8: Meghalaya Assembly Speaker Thomas A. Sangma on Monday handed over the official letter recognizing PDF’s merger with National People’s Party to PDF MLAs Gavin Miguel Mylliem and Banteidor Lyngdoh.
Speaking to reporters, former PDF president and Sohra MLA Gavin Miguel Mylliem said they came to collect the official recognition letter of merger which the party submitted to the Speaker on May 5, 2023.
The MLAs of the People’s Democratic Front (PDF) formally joined the NPP on Saturday at an impressive function at the NPP headquarters in Shillong.
NPP national president and Chief Minister of Meghalaya Conrad K. Sangma was present at the historic occasion along with his party colleagues NPP vice president and Dy CM Prestone Tyngsong, Dy CM Sniawbhalang Dhar, Cabinet Minister Dr M Ampareen Lyngdoh, Cabinet Minister Comingone Ymbon, Cabinet Minister Marcuies Marak and other NPP leaders and functionaries.
Addressing the occasion, NPP vice president and Deputy CM, Prestone Tynsong had termed the merger as a “marriage agreement”. He said, “As a marriage agreement we should not part ways just 2-3 months or 1-2 years but ‘till death do us apart’.”
NPP chief Conrad K. Sangma had stated that though PDF MLAs merged with the NPP only on Saturday, the discussions on the merger had taken place long time ago.
