Shillong, March 14: Disparsing Rani, an RTI activist, has brought to light some concerning findings regarding several issues in the Khasi Hills region of the State.

According to Rani, the Institute of Hotel Management (IHM) in Shillong has eight vacant posts out of the total 16 sanctioned positions, resulting in a staff shortage and a potential decline in the quality of education being imparted to students. He said the institute currently engages one person on contractual basis and 10 posts have been outsourced through an agency.

Furthermore, Rani claimed that the free connection of LPG gas connections in the region has been stopped, although the PMUY scheme still provides free connections throughout the country. “The Longkmie gas Agency told me that they do not know the main reason due to which the free connection of gas has been halted and they need to find out the reason to this and address this urgently,” he said.

Additionally, Rani said around 10 families have complained of not receiving the compensation amount of Rs. 50,000 from the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) for the death of their loved ones due to Covid-19, despite the Revenue & Disaster Management Department having paid an amount of Rs. 6,66,00,000 from the SDRF to families of those who died from Covid-19 in the State. Rani has urged authorities to investigate this matter and take necessary action to address the issues at hand.
