BJP announces candidates for all the 60 seats for Meghalaya Assembly polls, fields 6 women candidates

SHILLONG, Feb 2: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday announced the list of 60 candidates for the February 27 assembly elections in the state.

The list approved by the central parliamentary committee in New Delhi includes cabinet minister and South Shillong legislator Sanbor Shullai and five other legislators – AL Hek (Pynthorumkhrah), Himalaya M Shangpliang (Mawsynram), Benedic R Marak (Raksamgre), Ferlin CA Sangma (Selsella) and Samuel M Sangma (Baghmara).

The BJP is also fielding six women candidates that include Marian Maring (Nongpoh), Riya Sangma (Jirang), Arena Hynniewta (Shella), Darikmen L Marshyllong (Mawthadraishan), Betty Jyrwa (Mawkyrwat).

The list also featured the name of BJP state president Ernest Mawrie (West Shillong), three former legislators – MM Danggo (Ranikor), Diostarness Jyndiang (Nongstoin) and Edmund K Sangma (Phulbari), two sitting MDCs – Bernard N Marak (South Tura) and Dipul R Marak (Rangsakona), an ex-MDC David Kharsati (Nongthymmai) and a former IPS officer Mariahom Kharkrang (North Shillong).

Addressing media persons, Mawrie said that the party is confident to win in many seats this time.

He said that the BJP in the last 2018 Assembly elections had contested in 47 seats but won in only two seats. However, the party came second in 7 seats and third in 12 seats.

The other candidates include Rimiki Sari (Nartiang), Allan Keith Suchiang (Jowai), Lakhon Biam (Raliang), Currentis Rabon (Mokaiaw), Krison Langstang (Sutnga-Saipung), Bhayes Chyrmang (Khliehriat), Firstborn Manner (Amlarem), Dr Everist Myrsing (Mawhati), Duruth Majaw (Umsning), Shanbor Ramde (Umroi), Highlander Kharmalki (Mawryngkneng), Wandonbok Jyrwa (Mawlai), Wankitbok Pohshna (East Shillong), Sameul Hashah (Mylliem), David T Kharkongor (Nongkrem), Seraph Eric Kharbuki (Sohiong), Wossaroi Rani (Mawphlang), Rowelly Khongsni (Pynursla), Michael Ronnie Kshiar (Sohra), Counsellor Mukhim (Mawkynrew), Mark Rinaldy Sawkmie (Mairang), Sparsterlin Nongrem (Rambra-Jyrngam), Bijoy Kynter (Mawshynrut), Elstone D Marak (Kharkutta), Sengnab Ch Momin (Mendipathar), Sukharam K Sangma (Resubelpara), Herrendro A Sangma (Bajengdoba), Thomas N Marak (Songsak), Raplush Ch Marak (Rongjeng), Raknang Ch Momin (Williamnagar), Rahinath Barchung (Tikrikilla), Bakul Ch Hajong (Rajabala), Braining R Marak (Dadenggre), Adamkid M Sangma (North Tura), Premananda Koch (Ampati),Tingk R Marak (Mahendraganj), Boston Marak (Salmanpara), Daniel M Sangma (Gambegre), Akki A Sangma (Dalu), Calis G Momin (Rongara Siju) and Novembirth Ch Marak (Chokpot).
