Shillong, Sept 4: A three day ‘Ka Tynrai Jong Ka Longrynieng’ or the ‘Roots of Identity’ programme concluded at Soso Tham Auditorium here at Shillong on Saturday.

The programme was organised in memory of the unsung heroes of Meghalaya and to celebrate the Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav, under the aegis of the Union Ministry organised by Shillong Law College and Positive Energy Art Foundation (PEAF).

Union Minister of State (MoS) for Culture and Parliamentary Affairs, Arjun Ram Meghwal, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest, which was also attended by East Shillong MLA Ampareen Lyngdoh among other dignitaries.

Meghwal lauded the efforts of the Shillong Law College and Positive Energy Art Foundation for organising the programme to promote the art and culture of Meghalaya in particular and the Northeast in general.

Speaking on the bravehearts in India’s struggle for freedom, Meghwal said the contributions of U Tirot Sing Syiem, U Kiang Nangbah and Pa Togan Sangma should never be forgotten. “Tirot Sing is a very big name. All of us should know about him,” said the MoS.

He also reiterated that the government’s focus is to educate the youth on the unsung heroes of India’s Independence Movement.

Further, he enlightened the gathering on the idea behind Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav. Meghwal also encouraged the youth to continue celebrating Har Ghar Tiranga in the coming years and also sang his own composition of Har Ghar Tiranga campaign.
