Shillong, May 25: Following the death of atleast 22 pigs due to African Swine Fever (ASF) in Tiehsaw village of Nongstoin, West Khasi Hills, the Deputy Commissioner of West Khasi Hills has imposed Section 144 CrPC in the district.

Dr. P Sohlang, the Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Officer, informed that according to reports, around 22 pigs from the same farm had died as a result of the illness.

The Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Officer confirmed the reports, stating that the deaths were a direct result of the ASF outbreak.

Till date, there is no preventive measures or no treatment for the ASF, however one can prevent it by taking precautions like forbidding people from entering the pigsty and preventing those who are afflicted from mixing with others, said Dr. Sohlang.

An official notification was issued to raise awareness about the seriousness of the illness and emphasize the need for diligent care, further informed Dr. Sohlang.
