Imphal, July 13: Several women on Wednesday staged protests and burnt effigies of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and the Assam Rifles at several locations in Imphal.

The protesters at Naoremthong Khullem Leikai and Naoremthong Laishram Leirak,
holding placards and banners raised slogans such as Narendra Modi Murdabad, Amit Shah Murdabad and demanded authorities to remove Assam Rifles from Manipur.

Talking to media persons, on the sidelines of the protest at Naoremthong Khullem Leikai, a woman protester lambasted the state government for remaining inactive and instead strategising mediocre moves for political mileage during the whole crisis.

The protesters urged all leaders to reflect on the issue at hand seriously and do away with their petty political catfights.

A protester at Naoremthong Laishram Leirak lashed out at the 10 Kuki MLAs.

In a peace consultative meeting held at Kanglatongbi in Imphal West on Wednesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been given a deadline of 10 days to visit the violence-hit Manipur and take steps towards restoring peace in the state immediately.

The one-day meeting, organised by the Forum for Restoration of Peace in collaboration with the All Manipur Gorkha Students’ Association and Liangmai Naga, drew the participation of hundreds of individuals representing various ethnic groups.
