Shillong, July 13: A man convicted by the Court of the Special Judge (POCSO), Nongstoin, for sexually assaulting a 15-year-old girl has been sentenced to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment.
He has also been fined with Rs 30,000 for the offence punishable under Section 6 of the POCSO Act.
The order said that the accused has also been charged under Section 506IPC, punishment of simple imprisonment of a year for another offence and has been fined with Rs 1,000 by the court. The Court order also said that both the served sentences are to run concurrently.
Earlier on March 13, 2021, the father of the minor girl had filed an FIR against one Dilshad Nianglang for sexually assaulting his daughter.
The case was endorsed to be investigated by WPSI Siangshai of Nongstoin Women Police Station.
