West Jaiñtia Hills’ athletes gears up for Meghalaya Games 2024

Jowai, Jan 8: The athletes of West Jaiñtia District Sports Association (WJDSA) are vigorously doing their final drills at Kiang Nangbah Stadium, Jowai before leaving for the upcoming 5th Meghalaya Games 2024 in Tura, West Garo Hills.

The WJDSA will be competing in five disciplines viz. Volleyball, Archery, Basketball, Athletics and Football.

The Girls’ and Boy’s Teams comprise of 16 athletes each.

The Vice President of the Association, P. Lamare, informed that the athletes have been practising since December 2023, as soon as the dates for the Games were announced.

Eiladki Ksoo, the Captain of the Under 18 Girls’ Team, expressed optimism that they will bring laurels to the district during the games.

The Games are scheduled to be held from January 15 to 20, 2024 in Tura. This is the first time that the games are being held outside Shillong. Also, President of India, Droupadi Murmu will be inaugurating the Games on January 15.

Over 3000 athletes are expected to participate across 22 disciplines in the week-long sporting extravaganza.
