SHILLONG, SEPT 28: Two persons suspected to have illegally entered from Bangladesh were detained at Nongtrai in East Khasi Hills, prompting the Hynñiewtrep Youths’ Council (HYC) to seek a thorough and impartial investigation.
In a statement issued on Monday, the HYC Nongtrai Unit said it alerted authorities after receiving information about suspected illegal entry through a restricted area on September 26.
An FIR has been registered at Mawsynram Police Station in this connection.
“As per the FIR, the two persons, namely Jhinuk Hijrani, 22, and Priyanka Kumari, 20, were intercepted and found travelling in a vehicle bearing registration number ML 05 AC 5971. The case has been registered under Sections 12(1)(a) and (c) of the Passport Act, 1967,” the HYC said.
The investigation has been entrusted to SI Rochestar Warshong of Mawsynram Police Station.
Demanding a detailed probe, the HYC Nongtrai Unit urged the concerned authorities “to conduct a thorough and impartial investigation to ascertain and verify the nationality of the two persons, examine their travel documents, establish the route taken for entry, and determine if there was any facilitation or involvement of other individuals or networks.”
“The identity, nationality and circumstances of the two persons must be established strictly through due process of law, with a proper and transparent investigation,” the Council emphasized.
The HYC also appealed to residents, especially those living in border and vulnerable areas, to remain vigilant and “immediately report any suspicious movement or activity to the nearest police station or concerned authorities, so that illegal entry and other unlawful activities can be effectively checked.”
