Tura, Dec 10: The Vengaboys set the stage ablaze with their chart-topping hits at the grand finale of the Me’gong Festival in Jengjal, West Garo Hills, on Saturday evening.
The Me’gong Festival witnessed an extraordinary fusion of generations as the renowned Dutch music group, featuring Captain Kim (Kim Sasabone), Partygirl D’nice (Denise Post-Van Rijswijk), Cowboy Donny (Donny Latupeirissa), and Sailorboy Robin (Robin Pors), delivered a sensational performance that transcended age barriers.
The infectious beats and vibrant tunes transformed the festival grounds into an electric dance floor, with attendees of all ages joyously moving in unison.
Despite the massive turnout of over 2 lakh people, the audience remained captivated throughout the performance, turning the festival into a colossal dance celebration. The Vengaboys’ ability to connect with fans of all ages was evident as the crowd enthusiastically embraced the music, creating an unforgettable spectacle.
The grand finale featured a lineup of Vengaboys’ iconic hits, from “We Like to Party” to “Boom Boom Boom” and “We’re Going to Ibiza.” The performance reached its pinnacle when the band, visibly impressed by the Me’gong crowd, declared it a “very big show.” Their infectious energy was reciprocated with cheers and thunderous applause from the captivated audience.
Expressing their love for India, Captain Kim shared, “We have been to India six times, and the crowd at Me’gong is unimaginable. We like to Party, and we like to party at Me’gong.” The band went on to declare India as their “second motherland,” highlighting the special connection they feel with the country.
Interacting with Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma, Captain Kim expressed the band’s deep appreciation for India, stating, “India is very special to us. Our first concert in India changed our perception. India feels like our second motherland.” The Eurodance sensation emphasized the uniqueness of the North East, noting their eagerness to perform again in this part of the country.
Before gracing Me’gong, the Vengaboys visited the Kamakhya temple in Guwahati, Assam.
Partygirl D’nice expressed her amazement at the diversity of the North East, remarking, “When we were booked for Me’gong, I wondered where this festival was, and upon googling, discovered it was a whole new part of India.”
The Vengaboys’ performance at the Me’gong Festival not only entertained but also solidified their bond with the Indian audience, promising a future return to continue the celebration of music and unity.
