SHILLONG, FEB 24: Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong Tuesday informed that reconstruction of Tara Ghar state guest house was revised from Rs 15 crore to Rs 24.91 crore after contractor rates came in 12.38% above schedule.
“One contractor quoted rate at 12.38% above the scheduled of rate. That is the reason revision happened,” Tynsong said, replying to a cut motion moved by opposition leader Mukul Sangma in the Assembly.
He said an additional Rs 12.89 crore covers fittings and furnishings.
Tynsong also added that the Tara Ghar state guest house has set a new benchmark, with visitors likening it to a five-star hotel.
“It is one of the best state guest houses in India…It is for first time ever where we do have a state guest house with a standard of five-star.”
He said retired senior central officers and foreign guests praised the facility, adding the government would aim for similar quality in future buildings.
When Sangma asked if there was efforts to bring down the cost in order to save money, Tynsong rejected claims the Tara Ghar reconstruction was overpriced, saying the schedule of rates from 2021-22 was applied.
“The SOR 2021-22 adopted for reconstruction of this building.”
He said the guest house has 18 rooms, including six VVIP suites.
“I request members to visit…the fame of Meghalaya has gone up (due to) this particular guest house,” he added.
