Pope Francis Appoints Rev. Bernard Laloo as Auxiliary Bishop of Shillong

Shillong, Feb 8 : Pope Francis has appointed Rev. Bernard Laloo as the Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Shillong.

Until now, Rev. Laloo served as the Chancellor of the Archdiocese.

Born on June 16, 1976, in Laitlyngkot, Meghalaya, Rev. Laloo was ordained a priest on April 30, 2006, for the Archdiocese of Shillong. Over the years, he has held several key positions, including Assistant at St. Paul’s Church, Upper Shillong (2006-2007), Administrator of Christ the King College, Shillong (2008), and Dean of Studies at St. Paul’s Seminary, Shillong (2009-2015). He also served as Principal of Divine Saviour Higher Secondary School, Laitumkhrah (2015-2016) and later as Director of the Social Service Center, Shillong (2017-2021).

Rev. Laloo has played an active role in various organizations, serving as a Board Member of Caritas India (2021-2024) and holding positions in the Farmers’ Commission and the State Tuberculosis Co-morbidity Coordination Committee under the Government of Meghalaya. Since 2022, he has been the Chancellor of the Archdiocese of Shillong and Parish Priest of the Cathedral of Mary Help of Christians, Laitumkhrah.

Academically, he holds a Bachelor’s degree in Education and a Master’s degree in Sociology, along with Post Graduate Diplomas in Counselling Psychology.

The announcement of his appointment was made public in Rome on Saturday at 12:00 hrs and at the CBCI Centre in New Delhi at 16:30 hrs IST.
