Pedaling for Change: Mizoram’s Vanlallawmzuala Varte rides to Guwahati, spotlighting clean air awareness

Aizawl, Feb 8: Vanlallawmzuala Varte, a youth from Mizoram, successfully completed a bicycle ride to Guwahati today, marking a significant effort to raise awareness about clean air pollution nationwide.

The 34-year-old’s journey was aimed at drawing attention to the urgent need for cleaner air across the country.

After Vanlallawmzuala Varte reached Guwahati, some officials of the Assam pollution control board and a few cyclists took the initiative to welcome him in front of the Dighalipukhuri in Guwahati with a sports jersey and Assamese gamusa. After welcoming Varte, he also cooperated in the programme of planting a fruit sapling in the bank of Dighlipukhuri by the Assam Pollution Control Board.

Vanlallawmzuala Varte, also known as Lz Varte, commenced his mission “Ride to Clean Air” at Aizawl on January 25, 2024. The initiative involves cycling across all corners of India to promote awareness among citizens regarding air pollution.

Under the banner of “Clean & Green Sustainable Lifestyle Under Mission Life,” Pu Vanlallawmzuala Varte’s initiative is sponsored by the Mizoram Pollution Control Board with additional support from MINECO. The mission is designed to encourage a clean and sustainable lifestyle, emphasizing the importance of environmental consciousness.

Vanlallawmzuala Varte said that “I started my journey from Aizawl on January 25th, I have been to Agartala, and from Agartala to Shillong, and now here in Guwahati, after this, I am planning to go to Ranchi, then Kolkata, and then South India. I have completed 900km from Aizwal to here. My ride is sponsored by the Mizoram State Pollution Control Board; the name of the ride is Ride to Clean Air, under Mission Life. I want to inspire my friends and fellow Indians to use bicycles for long and short commutes so that we can reduce pollution such as air and  noise”, he added.
