SHILLONG, Sept 30: Over 775 bottles of phensedyl amounting to Rs 1.6 lakh meant for smuggling to Bangladesh were seized from the international border in West Jaintia Hills District, BSF informed on Friday.

The seizure was made on Thursday. It is a codeine-based cough syrup which is high in demand in Bangladesh to be consumed as a substitute to banned liquor, it said in a press statement.

Since the commencement of this year, the BSF has seized more than 5,000 bottles of phensedyl from the Indo-Bangladesh border. Identifying the vulnerable routes and making the plan accordingly went a long way in tightening the noose on smugglers and to discourage their nefarious attempts, the BSF said.
