SHILLONG, JUL 21: NPP state working president and cabinet minister Marcuise N. Marak on Tuesday said Rajya Sabha MP James PK Sangma is expected to strongly represent Meghalaya’s issues in Parliament.

Sangma took oath in the Upper House on Monday.

“We are expecting positively from him because he has very good knowledge of our state and can express himself very well in Parliament,” Marak said.

He added that Sangma’s language proficiency would be an advantage.

“He has no language issue. He can speak Hindi fluently and also speaks English well. That will help him raise our concerns effectively,” Marak said.

The minister listed some of the key issues that need to be taken up nationally.

“We have many issues in the state that need to be voiced in Parliament. The burning ones include implementation of the Inner Line Permit, inclusion of Khasi and Garo languages, and several others,” he said.
