Shillong, Sept 16: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma has assured that the perpetrators involved in the recent murder of a 4-year-old girl at Nongrah Nonglum will soon be brought to book.
Speaking to media persons on Tuesday, Sangma has extended his deepest condolences to the family of the deceased minor.
He expressed his confidence in the police investigation, stating that the authorities are working overtime to crack the case.
“(I express) my deepest condolences to the family as what happened was completely not correct.”
Assuring that police are working over time to crack the case, the chief minister said, “I am told by deputy chief minister that they have made very advances in the entire enquiry. I will not be able to speak about that right now because it is still in the investigation stage but deputy chief minister has informed me that the investigation is at a very advance stage and very soon we should be able to crack this case.”
Insaphira Lyngdoh Mawnai was found missing from her home in Nongrah Nonglum on Sunday morning. Her body was found submerged in a waterlogged pit inside an under construction house near her residence on Monday morning.
A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been formed by the East Khasi Hills police to probe into the case.
The SIT will be headed by SP (City) Herbert Kharkongor, under the overall supervision of the SP, East Khasi Hills District.
The police are examining witnesses and gathering evidence to identify the culprit(s) responsible for this heinous crime.
