Shillong, Oct 31: Meghalaya Power Minister and United Democratic Party (UDP) president Metbah Lyngdoh on Saturday resigned from the MDA Cabinet with immediate effect, following the departure of 11 of the party’s 12 MLAs.
Lyngdoh confirmed that he had tendered his resignation to Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma, stating that the decision was taken after carefully assessing the prevailing political situation and the recent developments within the party.
With 11 MLAs having quit the UDP, Lyngdoh is now the party’s sole representative in the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly.
He said the party’s Central Executive Committee would deliberate on the political developments and determine the next course of action in consultation with its leaders and office-bearers.
Meanwhile, dismissing speculation that he was under pressure to resign, Lyngdoh maintained that the decision was entirely his own and was taken independently after due consideration.
