Meghalaya targets to complete all smart city projects by mid-2026

Shillong, April 14: Deputy Chief Minister in-charge Urban Affairs, Sniawbhalang Dhar, on Monday informed that there is good progress in the implementation of the various Smart city projects.

Speaking to reporters, Dhar said, “We are reviewing from time to time. All projects are progressing well.”

He informed that the 98 percent of the construction work for Polo shopping mall has been completed, adding the construction work of parking lots is also progressing.

“Hopefully if not by 2025 but by mid-2026 it should be completed,” Dhar said.

“We are waiting for the next phase 2.0 smart city projects,” he added.

The Smart Cities Mission was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on June 25, 2015. The aim of the mission is to provide cities with core infrastructure, clean and sustainable environment and give a decent quality of life to citizens of the country through the application of “smart solutions”.

Shillong is one of the 100 cities to be included in the mission. However, it’s entry was very late, infact it was the last city to be enrolled into the programme –100th, on July 4, 2018.
