Meghalaya Rains: 40-year-old man drowns in Nongpoh due to heavy downpour; body recovered

Shillong, June 13: Amid heavy rainfall on Monday, a 40-year-old man tragically drowned after he was carried away by the strong current of a stream in Nongpoh, Ri-Bhoi District near the National Highway 6 at midnight on Tuesday (June 13).

According to Sources, the unfortunate incident is said to have occures at around 9:30 or 10:00 pm, when Nongpoh was lashed with heavy rainfall for continous three hours.

As per information, the man was taking refuge in one shop near that stream but unfortunately he slipped and fell into it and was carried away by the gushing current.

The body of the man was found after family members and community people searched him for almost two hours from a bush which is about 100-150 yards away from where he slipped,

The deceased was a resident of Umlyngkdait, the body was subsequently retrieved by the local residents.

After the body was recovered, it was sent to Nongpoh Civil Hospital for post mortem.
